Christmas as we know it today is a 19th-century invention. The decorated Christmas tree, common in German

countries for centuries, was introduced to Britain by Prince Albert, Queen Victoria's Consort. Carols were

revived and many new ones written, often to traditional melodies. The custom of carol-singing, although with

ancient origins, dates mainly from the 19th century. Christmas crackers were invented in the late 19th century

by an enterprising English baker, Tom Smith, who, by 1900, was selling 13 million worldwide each year, and

Christmas cards only became commonplace in the 1870s, although the first one was produced in London in 1846.

The familiar image of Santa Claus, complete with sled, reindeers, and sack of toys, is an American invention

which first appeared in a drawing by Thomas Nast in Harper's Magazine in 1868, although the legend of

Father Christmas is ancient and complex, being partly derived from St Nicholas and a jovial medieval figure,

the "spirit of Christmas". In Russia, he traditionally carries a pink piglet under his arm.

Today, Christmas is as much a secular festival as a religious one. It is a time of great commercial activity and

for present-giving, family reunions and, in English-speaking countries, a "traditional" Christmas meal of turkey

or goose, Christmas pudding, and mince pies. Midnight mass is celebrated in churches and cathedrals in the

West. In many countries, including Germany, the custom of lighting the tree, singing carols around it, and

opening presents is celebrated on December 24, Christmas Eve

With opposite seasons to the Northern Hemisphere, Christmas in Australia is quite different from the

traditional European concept. Instead of white, snowy scenery, Australia is filled with blue skies and sunshine

and intense heat sometimes up to 35 degrees Centigrade (100 degrees Fahrenheit). In Australia on Christmas

Day, families might gather for a traditional Aussie barbecue surrounded by family and friends or spend the day

at the beach. With the Australian Christmas  in the middle of the long summer school holidays, many families

spend their Christmas Day away from home - in a caravan or flat at the beach, in a tent in the bush or with

other family members in another city or state.

Australia is now a multicultural society with many people from many different places. But nearly all celebrate

Christmas by giving gifts and preparing special food to share with friends and family. Many Australian

Christmas dinners look (and taste) like traditional English and European feasts - with roasted meats and

vegetables, special fruit cakes and puddings. In the Australian gold rushes, Christmas puddings often contained

a gold nugget and this tradition continues today with a coin (once upon a time, a sixpence) often baked inside.  

However, lately, more Australian families are having Christmas Dinners which reflect the summers. Eating a hot

meal in the middle of a 35 degree day isn't much fun so more people are beginning to eat cold meats and

salads, seafood and tropical fruit like mangoes and pawpaws, rockmelons, watermelons and stone fruits like

plums, apricots, cherries and peaches. Often the main meal is eaten at lunch time rather than at night,

although it not unusual to share one meal with one side of the family at lunch time and another at tea with the

other relations.

Australians enjoy  Carols by Candlelight on Christmas Eve which is broadcast on TV across the country.

Traditional carols are sung as well as some Australian ones like "Six White Boomers" and "Santa Never Made it

into Darwin". Many people attend  church services both on Christmas Eve and on Christmas Day and celebrate

the religious aspect of Christmas and the Birth of Jesus.   Santa Claus brings the children gifts on Christmas

Eve and the children leave a piece of cake or biscuits and a glass of milk or bottle of beer for Santa to see

him on his long journey. Early Christmas morning, the children eagerly wake tired parents to come and see what

Santa has left them under the tree.

Australian shops and homes are decorated with tinsel and bright Christmas decorations and have Santa available

for a chat with the children or for a photo.  City squares and other public places like Shopping Centres have

many decorations and giant living Christmas trees. Most homes have a Christmas tree - with many people now

having a pine tree growing in a pot which is brought inside once a year.  Some people decorate the exterior of

their homes with special lights and displays to share Christmas with their neighbours and any cities have

competitions for the best decorated house and street etc.

Most Australian schools finish a week before Christmas for the summer break and recommence after Australia

Day on 26 January. This is known as the Summer Vacation.

Australia's worst Christmas was in 1974, when Cyclone Tracy devastated Darwin in the Northern Territory.

Christmas in Brazil is one of the most important "dia de festers" of the year. Old Brazilian legend says that

even the animals talk to each other about the birth of Christ; the rooster says, "christo nasceu" (Christ is

born) the bull asks, "Onde?" (Where?) the chorus of sheep answers, "Em Belem de Juda" (In Bethlehem of

Judea)

LANGUAGE
Portuguese is the official language of Brazil, this is because it was first a Portuguese colony.

FESTAS (Christmas) SANTA & DECORATIONS
Brazil is a large country with a mix of people from many parts of the world, so they celebrate Christmas in

many different ways. As a former Portuguese colony they have retained some of the Christmas customs from

this heritage. One of them is to build wonderful "Christmas Scenes" called Presépio, (the bed of straw in which

Jesus first slept after birth), commonly known as a Nativity Scene in other parts of the world. This practise

is common in north eastern Brazil (Bahia, Sergipe, Rio Grande do Norte, Paraiba, Maranhao, Ceara,

Pernambuco, Piaui and Alagoas). A Franciscan friar named Gaspar De Santo Agostinho introduced the Presépio in

the 17th century, in the city of Olinda. Nowadays presépios are built in December and displayed in churches,

houses and stores. In January, they are dismantled along with the Christmas trees and lights.

In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, which is in the southern part of Brazil, it snows - but not in December at

Christmas time - only in July. With it being summer the temperature is very hot but they still sometimes

symbolise falling snow with little pieces of white cotton on pine trees, their Christmas tree.

Because of the hot weather Father Christmas who is called Papai Noel (Father Noel) is dressed in a red silk

suit with boots and his bag full of presents.

FOOD
Unfortunately as is the case with most countries the amount of money a family has will depend on the type of

feast the family has. Most Brazilians will have a feast as we know it, with roast turkey, vegetables and fruits

but for the poor, chicken and rice or beans and rice will be their ‘special feast’.

Beer and wine are often also served and in the southern part of the country it is not uncommon to find a

German "Stollen" and an Italian "Panetone" sitting next to the Christmas feast, showing that there is also a

European influence.

In some regions the feast starts on Christmas Eve at about 9pm, while other Brazilians eat at midnight serving

the children first because they must quickly get to sleep if Papai Noel is to bring them gifts. The timing of the

dinner depends on how religious the family is as to whether or not they attend midnight mass. This mass is

called "Missa do Galo" (a galo is a rooster). It is called this because the mass finishes at 1am Christmas

morning.

PRESENTS
Sadly not all children in Brazil will receive gifts even though they have prayed for them. Local charities gather

donations from those who can afford to give and are willing to, but it is never enough for all the children. Far

too many children (especially the street children) in Brazil who pray for Santa's gifts will not receive any.

THE POOR SIDE OF THINGS
In the poor places there is no difference in the surroundings, NO Papai Noel, coloured lights, candy canes or

swapping presents ; Instead of swapping presents they go to midnight mass (church) on Christmas eve. The

poor believe that Christmas is not about spangles and glitter but love and Christ.  WHY GOD IS LETTING

Christmas is one a few holidays that is celebrated in Japan with as many traditions as there are of countries.

Whether the symbols of Christmas are the candles, singing carols, or Santa Kurohsu, the spirit rarely changes:

the spirit of peace, giving gifts and good will towards everyone. Christmas began at the beginning of the 20th

century and is sure to keep on going.

Customs
There are 2 special customs in Japan:  
First, the daiku, or Great nine, which refers to Beethoven's ninth symphony. This is performed in many places

at Christmas time ( also New Year), sometimes with huge masses of choruses for the most famous part, with

what Americans sing as a hymn- Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.

The second custom, is the Christmas cake. Christmas in Japan just wouldn't be the same without it. It's a

blessing to the Japanese bakery industries, that's for sure, because this is not a home project. Japanese are

shocked when told that America knows of no Christmas cake and that it is a Japanese custom.

Food
Japanese families eat turkey mainly on Christmas Day, but some eat it on Christmas Eve depending on their

custom.

Christmas Tree
There are no live Christmas trees in Japan, only artificial trees. Not that many houses have their own tree

yet, but are starting to, appear more often at Christmas time. The trees are decorated with small toys, dolls,

paper ornaments, gold paper fans, lanterns and wind chimes. The most popular ornament us the 'origami swan.'

The Christmas tree is placed in hospitals to lift the spirit of the sick.

Decorations
Mistletoe and evergreen are hung from the ceilings. Tinsels and lights are hung in the dance halls, cafes and

pinball parlours (where 'modern- minded' Japanese go to celebrate). An amulet for good luck is placed on the

front door. 1000% of lights at shops have increased with aprox. 7 years. Japanese children exchange

thousands of 'birds of peace' in the past, of the pledge that war must not occur again.

Gifts
For a few weeks before Christmas, shops set up displays of appropriate gifts for men, women and children

(especially children). On Christmas day, families sit around the tree to exchange their gifts, whether it be at

their house, relatives or friends. For some families who have Christmas trees, they'd gather the presents

under the tree as we do in Australia.

Santa
Santa Kurohsu, as people call Santa in Japan is a popular character at Christmas time. IN Japan Santa does

not yet appear in person, like in shopping centres. He is only pictured as advertising foil. Santa is pictured as a

kind old man, carring a round sack on his back. He is known to have eyes on the back of his head, so he can

watch the children all year round.

Church
Most churches will have their own special Christmas worship service on the nearest Sunday before the 25th of

December and perhaps on Christmas Eve.

Nativity
The story of Jesus born in a manger is fascinating to the little girls of Japan, for they love anything having to

do with babies. In the scene in the nativity, many become familiar for the first time with a cradle, for

Japanese babies have not slept traditionally in cradles. Others may even put on plays about the birth of

Jesus.

Christ/History
Christianity in Japan is pretty low with 1% believing in Christ, with a few truly understanding the significance

of the birth of Jesus. The Christian faith was first introduced in Japan by Jesuit and later by Franciscan

missionaries in the 16th century. There were probably about 300 000 baptised believers in Japan.

Unfortunately, the promising beginning met reverses, brought by rivalries between different groups of

missionaries, political intrigues (by Spanish and Portuguese government). The first victims were 6 Franciscan

friars and 20 of them converts, who were crucified as Nagasaki on 5 February 1597. After a short time,

other Christians were arrested, imprisoned for life, tortured and killed. The church was totally ignored by

1630. The church began to grow again after Commodore Perry opened Japan with America’s great white fleet.

Missionaries poured into Japan to start Christianity again in Japan in the 20th century. People wanted to

forgot about the happenings and started life again.

Carols
In some homes Christmas carols are sung gaily. One of the most poular song is Silent Night. Children are

chosen to sing carols to the patients in hospitals. Some carols are sung in shops (some songs are sung in

English).

The fiestas for Virgin de la Soledad, the patron saint of Oaxaca, from December 16th – 18th, signals the

beginning of the Navidad festivities. A highlight of this festival is the Posada. The Posada is held at a

different church each night from December 18th – 24th. On December  23rd, the annual event, Noche de los

Rabanos, takes place. This is a very festive time when booths are set up along the length and breadth of

Zocalo. The focal point of each booth is exhibits of hand carved giant radishes. There are also colourfully

decorated floats, music, traditional dancing and pinata prizes. A crowning glory of the fiesta is a mammoth

fireworks display.

Almost everybody takes the last two weeks in December off so that they can party, spend more time with

their family, visit old friends or make new ones.

Mexico is warm and colourful in the holiday season south of the border. You will discover a delightful array of

seasonal traditions which make celebrating "Navidad" (Christmas) in Mexico a unique and unforgettable

experience.

The main Christmas celebration in Mexico is Las Posadas, which are processions re-enacting Joseph and Mary’s

search for a place to stay in Bethlehem. They begin nine days before Christmas because the original journey

from Nazareth to Bethlehem took nine days. Friends and family divide into two groups, Pilgrims and Innkeepers.

The Pilgrims travel from house to house asking for shelter and are declined every time until finally they reach a

house where an alter and Nativity Scene are set up. Here Pilgrims are admitted with great rejoicing and a

traditional prayer is spoken.

The King’s Ring-Shaped bread is a traditional Epiphany supper. It is a ring-shaped cake and is usually eaten

with a hot chocolate. This cake came from Spain and it was introduced to Mexico during the early years of the

Viceregal reign. Decorations are also on it. Some of them are sugar. Others are dried fruit such as figs,

quince and cherries, which improve the flavour. A tiny figure, which represents the Christ Child, is hidden in

the preparation for the cake-cutting ritual, which begins in the afternoon or dinnertime. Unlike the Cracker

Jack box where the winner takes all, whoever finds the doll is very unlucky. They have to throw a party on

February 2nd. The winner who has to pay for the party is often thought as the loser.

On Christmas Eve in Santiago Tuxtla (Veracruz) everybody assembles in the Zocalo for an evening of dancing,

which include the huapangs to the accompaniment of a Jarocho band. In Quiroga (Michoacan) villagers present

some Nativity plays (Pastorales) in churches on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Even in the capital, Mexico

City, a festive air with the famed Zocalo a blaze (which is sometimes called the Plaza de la Constitution) has a

sea of colourful lights in this ancient square.

The Cuetlaxochitl or better known as the Poinsettia is known as the Christmas flower because of its beautiful

red colour and it mainly blooms in December. In most countries it is known as the Poinsettia after the former

US Ambassador to Mexico (Joel R. Poinset) liked it so much he named it and sent it to the USA. Later it was

sent to Europe.

Several weeks before Christmas decorated market stalls or Puestos are set up in every town and city. People

travel for days just to get to these markets. Puestos offer crafts of every kind like foods such as cheese,

bananas, nuts and cookies. They also offer flowers like orchids and poinsettias.

In the town of Cajititlan (near Guadalajara) people celebrate the holidays on Three Kings Day (Epiphany) which

falls on January 6th. This was the traditional time to celebrate the gift giving aspect of Christmas throughout

Mexico. In most parts of the country the holiday now occurs on the same day as the celebration that is held

north of the border on December 25th. Children now expect gifts on both of these days.

In the Netherlands St. Nicholas is known as Sinterklaas. His feast day is on December 6th.The children are

given gifts such as toys, nuts and traditional Dutch like "pepernoten", "taai-taai" or "schuimpjies". Sinterklaas

has helpers called "zwarte pieten." On December 5th families stay up and sing songs until they hear a knock at

the door. When they open the door there is a bag full of lollies and gifts. Christmas is also celebrated on the

25th and 26th of December. Families have dinner and go to church afterwards. Christmas day is spent both at

home and at church and the day after Christmas is spent with family members. Sinterklaas wears a red

bishop’s hat, a red bishop’s cloak and has white hair and a white beard.

Christmas songs
Popular modern folk carols include the "Cherry Tree Carol" and "I Saw Three Ships." Composed carols gained

variety in form in the 17th century, while their texts began to centre on Christmas. After a decline, the

composed carol was revived about 1880 by religious reformers promoting devotional hymn singing. Their efforts

gave rise to newly written carols such as "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing," by the Methodist clergyman Charles

Wesley, and to translations of foreign carols such as "Silent Night" (from German) and "O Come, All Ye

Faithful" (from Latin). One of the most popular carols is "O Christmas tree, O Christmas tree".

Food at Christmas
In the Netherlands at Christmas the people eat a good deal of marzipan in every shape and form, as well as

spiced ginger biscuits, spiced cakes in the form of animals and figures, tall chocolate letters in the shape of an

initial S and "bankletter" - initials made of pastry filled with almond paste. "Kerstbrood" is what they call

Christmas loaf and "Kerstkrans" is a Christmas ring which is eaten when they are around the Christmas tree

singing songs.

The Christmas tree and decorations
In the Netherlands the Christmas tree is called the paradise tree. You can buy artificial trees or real pine

trees. In the sixteenth century Christians brought trees and put them in their homes. Some people built

Christmas pyramids of wood and decorated them with evergreens and candles. Early Christmas decorations

include dolls, musical instruments, fruit, candy and lights. So even though the Dutch do have a tree at

Christmas, the festival is a quiet family affair with the children gathering around the tree to listen to father

reading the story of the first Christmas from the New Testament.

In Poland, Christmas Eve is a very quiet time and has a twenty- four hour fast which ends with a huge feast.

The feast can’t start until the first star appears at night. The feast contains twelve courses and is completely

free of red meat. It contains fish, cabbage, dumplings, potatoes and a type of thin bread that is like holy

bread. The fish that is used is usually herring, carp or pike. For the Polish people their twelve courses can also

consist of fish soup.

A tradition in Poland, that is not taken seriously is one where old people predict the next year’s weather on

what they see outside on January the sixth. In Poland the climate is very icy and it almost always snows on

Christmas Day.

Some Polish people believe that if Christmas sees no snow, then Easter certainly will, or if the Christmas tree

sinks in water then an egg will roll on ice. Other beliefs include that the star that shines on Christmas Eve will

make the hens lay more eggs. Some Polish girls believe that if they blindfold each other and touch fence

pickets a straight smooth picket would portend a resourceful husband while a crooked and rough one was an

indication of a clumsy and awkward husband.

There are three types of Polish carols - religious, legendary and imaginative. The religious carols are among

the most profound and beautiful of all Polish hymns. The legendary ones are based on the book of the

Apocrypha containing many legends and details for which strict historical truth can’t be assumed. The third kind

owe their life to people of humble birth, who in relating the story of the nativity used familiar surroundings

taken from their own homes.

The Earth is flat
Many atheists claim that the Bible says that the earth is flat. Specific examples are seldom given - for good reason - they don't exist. The word "flat" occurs only a few times in the Bible,1 none of which is associated with the Earth. Synonyms, such as level,2 plain,3 plane, even, or horizontal are never used in reference to the entire Earth, but only to specific geographic areas. In addition, the Bible indicates in several places that the earth is a sphere suspended in space, with day and night existing simultaneously (see Accurate Biblical Descriptions of Scientific Principles). If a flat earth were a doctrine of the Bible, it would have to rank as one of the most obscure. The Earth is covered by a domeAtheists claim that the firmament (KJV) or expanse (NASB, NIV) was a solid dome in which the stars and sun were placed. However, the Hebrew word, raqia,4 translated "firmament" is definitely not a solid structure, as indicated in Genesis 1:20,5 since birds cannot fly through solid material. The only verse in which the word "dome" is used is an obscure verse from the book of Amos, only in the NASB translation.6 The Hebrew word in question is aguddah, meaning a band:- band(1), bands(1), bunch(1).7 The other translations use the word "foundation" (NIV) and troop" (KJV). A Hebrew colleague indicated that the word refers to human beings (His gathering). he who builds his lofty palace in the heavens and sets its foundation [aguddah] on the earth, who calls for the waters of the sea and pours them out over the face of the land-- the LORD is his name. (Amos 9:6, NIV)
It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop [aguddah] in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name. (Amos 9:6, KJV)

Here are the other three verses in which the word aguddah appears: "And you shall take a bunch [aguddah] of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning." (Exodus 12:22)
And the sons of Benjamin gathered together behind Abner and became one band [aguddah], and they stood on the top of a certain hill. (2 Samuel 2:25)
"Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To undo the bands [aguddah] of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free, And break every yoke?" (Isaiah 58:6)
It is obvious that the NASB translation of Amos 9:6 is off base. This example is typical of the kind of objections raised by atheists. Their MO is to find an unusual translation (usually found in only one translation) and use this as "proof" that the Bible is inaccurate. Another example given for the claim that the Bible teaches there is a dome that holds the stars comes from the book of Job: "Can you, with Him, spread out the skies, Strong as a molten mirror?" (Job 37:18) Out of context, it seems like an open and shut case that the Bible teaches that the skies are solid. What the atheists don't want to tell you is who was talking (Elihu, one of Job's "friends") and what was God's response to these teachings. In fact, in the next chapter, God answers Job's "friends" teachings with this comment: "Who is this that darkens counsel By words without knowledge?" (Job 38:2) SOME "friends", DEVIL USES THEM. In other words, God tells Job that his friends don't know what they are talking about. So much for the claim that the Bible endorses the idea that the skies are a solid dome. Since God Himself answered Job in the next 5 chapters, atheists would have a valid point if they found an error in any of those chapters. However, you won't find any complaints about the content of chapters 38-42. In fact, chapter 38 accurately establishes the initial conditions of the earth (covered with a thick layer of clouds): "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?... When I made a cloud its garment And thick darkness its swaddling band" (Job 38:4, 9) Stars were created in the sky
Related to the dome question is where the Bible says God created the Sun, moon, and stars. Here is what the Bible says: God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. God placed them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, (Genesis 1:16-17, NASB)

And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.  And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, (Genesis 1:16-17, KJV) One word is "expanse" (or "firmament" in the KJV) which is the Hebrew word "ra^qi^ya". The other two English words are "sky" and "heaven" (or "heavens"). In the Hebrew, these words are actually the same. There is no specific word that differentiates "sky" from "heaven," since they are all the same Hebrew word, "sha^mayim." Essentially, it was the translators choice whether to use the word "sky" or "heaven." So, there is no differentiation whether the stars were created in the sky or heaven. Atheists claim that the Hebrews thought that heaven (Hebrew word is shamayin) consisted of water. However, the word shamayin occurs 39 times in conjunction with birds flying through shamayin (no, these verses are not referring to diving water fowl!). Obviously, shamayin means more than heaven, and often refers to the atmosphere, or sky. One needs to be careful in looking at the context to determine the true English meaning. The Earth was created from water
A verse from 2 Peter makes the statement that "the earth was formed out of water and by water." In reading the English translation, one would think that the verse states that planet Earth was created from water. Let us look at the verse 2 Peter 3:5 from the context in which it appears: For when they maintain this, it escapes their notice that by the word of God the heavens existed long ago and the earth was formed out of water and by water, through which the world at that time was destroyed, being flooded with water. But the present heavens and earth by His word are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. (2 Peter 3:5-7) This chapter is talking about judgment. It is clear from the context the Greek word, gay, translated "earth" in the NASB is better translated as "land," "soil" or "ground," since this verse refers to this same "earth" being destroyed in the judgment of mankind at the flood. It is obvious that the planet earth was not destroyed by water, but the land was covered with water. The Greek word, sunistaymi, is only in this instance translated "formed" and is, in every other instance, translated "to commend" or "to establish" and does not have the meaning "create." This verse is an obvious reference to the formation of continents mentioned in Genesis 1:9-10.9 Therefore, the concept of the earth being created out of water is supported by neither the context of the verse nor the original language. It is obvious that the NASB translation of 2 Peter 3:5 is a very misleading and a poor rendering of the original. Although the meaning of the original language of this verse is clear, a lack of understanding of science allowed scholars to translate the verse into something that makes no sense scientifically. Hell is under the EarthAtheist claim that the Bible says that Hell is under the Earth. The Greek word for hell, genna, occurs only 11 times in the Bible, none of which refer to a place under the Earth. In fact, all the references to under the Earth refer to either Sheol (Hebrew) or its Greek equivalent (Hades), both of which refer to the grave, which is under the Earth. Obviously, all people end up in the grave at death. Here are the verses commonly cited: "The LORD kills and makes alive; He brings down to Sheol and raises up. (1 Samuel 2:6) (refers to death and resurrection) that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE SHOULD BOW, of those who are in heaven, and on earth, and under the earth, (Philippians 2:10) (at Jesus' second coming all will acknowledge Him, the Angels, those still alive, and those in the grave.) Here is a list of all verses that refer to Hell: "But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever shall say to his brother, 'Raca,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever shall say, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell." (Matthew 5:22)

Atheists claim that there are false prophesies in the Bible, such as the one that predicts that the early saints would be there for Christ's glorious (2nd) coming, and that John would not taste death.

This is the specific prophecy that they are referring to: "Truly I say to you, there are some of those who are standing here who shall not taste death until they see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom." (Matthew 16:28) This prophecy was actually fulfilled in its entirety in the late first century. If you read the book of Revelation, you will see that John, the apostle to whom the prophecy was directed, saw Jesus coming in His glory to establish His kingdom. This is what the entire book of revelation describes - the second coming of Jesus Christ. John saw it all in a vision, as it will happen. The prophecy was fulfilled! The prophecy does not say that John would not die before Christ returned. It said that he would not die before seeing the return of Jesus Christ. What is awesome about the vision reported by John is that he did not understand what he was seeing, but reported it as he saw it. As such, he includes descriptions of a giant meteor collision with the earth (BUT HUMANIST HOLLYWOOD MADE ARMAGEDDON, AND THAT OTHER ONE, ABOUT HOW HUMANS SAVE THE EARTH, AND MANY BELIEVE IT, NAVY KNOCKED DOWN A FALLING SATELLITE, PROUD OF EM, BUT BETTER NOT BUCK JESUS, THESE NEW MBA LIBERAL OFFICERS RUNNING THE PENTAGON), battles with mechanized machines that sound like tanks, and huge armies (200,000,000 men), which would not even be possible until at least the 20th century. Atheist claim that the Bible describes an impossible event - the falling of stars onto the Earth. Revelation 6:13-1412 is talking about an event yet to come, and as such cannot be proven or disproved from science. In fact the book indicates that the events are not natural, but supernatural. To say that they describe something that is not naturally possible is to state what the book already tells us. Revelation is the book of the Bible, which the apostle John received in a vision.
As in many visions given to men by God, the receiver was not always able to explain or understand exactly what he saw. The description of the events are those as perceived by John.
The Greek word, astayr, besides being translated "star" can also have the meaning "comet," "meteor" or "asteroid", since there is no Greek word having this meaning. Even our English language refers to meteorites as "falling stars." The description of the "star" Wormwood seems to be that of a large meteorite or comet.
13 The impact of one or a number of large meteorites on the earth will have the effect of a several thousand to hundreds of thousands megaton or larger nuclear explosions. It would appear to the observer that the sky was split apart by the large amount of ejecta thrown into the atmosphere. As the multitude of tiny ballistic missiles fell beck to earth, meteors filled the sky, and the atmosphere became red- hot. Fires erupted over the earth's surface, but the global inferno was soon followed by persistent darkness." Atheists claim that God did not create the first rainbow until the flood, implying that the laws concerning the refraction of light were not in effect until then. However, the Bible does not make this statement at all. Here are the relevant verses: And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth." (Genesis 9:12-13) The Hebrew states that the setting of the rainbow in the clouds was something accomplished in the past (notice the English translation. "I have set"). Nowhere does the Bible state that this was the first time a rainbow was visible on the earth. Fire consumes wet wood, stones, and dust and licks up water
This is a reference to the "contest" between Elijah and the prophets of Baal. Here is the relevant verse: Then the fire of the LORD fell, and consumed the burnt offering and the wood and the stones and the dust, and licked up the water that was in the trench. (1 Kings 18:38) Presumably, no fire could be hot enough to burn wet wood, stone, and dust. However, the verse makes it clear that this is no ordinary fire. The fire was called for by a prayer from Elijah, and answered by the Creator of the universe. Obviously, if God exists, He would be capable of creating a fire hot enough to burn wet wood, and stones and evaporate water. The earth is square and has four corners
There are some verses in the Bible that suggest (from the English translations) that the earth has four corners. An example is from Isaiah: And He will lift up a standard for the nations, And will assemble the banished ones of Israel, And will gather the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth. (Isaiah 11:12, NASB) Actually, what these four "corners" refer to are the points of the compass - north, south, east, and west. In reality, the Hebrew word has nothing to do with corners at all. In fact, the word kanaph refers to the wing or extremity of birds.15 The word is translated as a form of "wing" in nearly every instance.16 It is also used to refer to the wing of an army. However, it would sound rather strange to refer to the wings of the earth, so the English translators used the word "corners." Some of the newer translations use the word "quarters."17 It certainly has nothing to do with squares, but refers to the uttermost parts of the earth. By the way, this prophecy was fulfilled in 1948 with the establishment of the nation of Israel following nearly 2,000 years of dispersion. Jews from literally the uttermost parts of the earth were reunited in that new nation. The earth can be turned upside down scattering the inhabitantsThis is a typical example of the deceptive atheists practice of taking verses from archaic English translations (KJV) and making conclusions that are completely unsupported. Here is the verse from the KJV translation: Behold, the LORD maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste, and turneth it upside down, and scattereth abroad the inhabitants thereof. (Isaiah 24:1, KJV) Of course, the other English translations are never cited for this verse, since they obviously do not show that the Bible is errant: Behold, the LORD lays the earth waste, devastates it, distorts its surface, and scatters its inhabitants. (Isaiah 24:1, NASB) The Hebrew verb used in this verse is avah, which means to "bend" or "twist" or "distort."18 The noun to which it refers is panim, which is most often translated face,19 in this instance referring to the face (or surface) of the earth. The verse seems to be an obvious reference to earthquakes. It has nothing to do with turning the earth upside down. Plants created before the sun?Sun was created "in the beginning". The Bible says, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." The Hebrew construction "heavens and the earth" refer to the entire created universe. The light of the Sun first fell on the surface of the earth on the first "day," since the Bible describes day and night on the first "day" (Genesis 1:2-3).20 In contrast, the plants were not created until the third "day."21 For more information, see Day-Age Genesis One Interpretation. The sun orbits the earthAtheists claim that the Bible teaches geocentrism, the idea that earth is the center of the universe and that everything orbits around it. One example given is the long day of Joshua, where the sun stood still to provide more daylight. The Bible says that Joshua prayed to God and God performed a miracle.22 The text makes it clear that Sun "stopped in the middle of the sky".23 We still use phrases like the "Sun rose", "Sun set". There is no English (or Hebrew) phrase indicating that the earth rotates until the horizon covers the Sun. Rabbits chew the cud
The Bible does say that rabbits chew the cud.24 As most people know, ruminant animals eat their food, swallow it, then regurgitate it and chew it a second time. This process is called "chewing the cud." Rabbits don't regurgitate their food, but they do eat  it a second time. The process is called "coprophagy."25 The rabbit sends its food through the intestines, then produces soft fecal pellets at night that it eats. Because the process resembles that of ruminants, it has been called pseudorumination.26 Insects have four legs
There are several verses that are translated in our English Bibles to imply that insects have four legs. In reality, the Hebrew word sherets, translated as "insect" is not nearly as specific as the term "insect" would imply. The word really refers to crawling or swimming creatures that tend to swarm together. For example, in Genesis, sherets refers to swarming sea creatures,27 in the flood account (Genesis 7) sherets refers to rodents,28 and in Leviticus, sherets refers to crustaceans,29 insects,30 rodents,31 and reptiles.32 The term sherets was never intended as a biological classification system, so to say that it specifically refers to "insects" is deceptive. What is common among all the creatures mentioned is that they have short legs and often travel together in groups. In fact, the Bible defines sherets as "crawling on its belly" and "whatever walks on all fours."33 What is common in this group of crustaceans, insects, rodents, and reptiles is that they all crawl on "all four" legs. Some from this group actually have more than four legs. However, the Hebrew idiom "on all fours" refers to any creature that crawls low to the ground on at least four legs.

Were the writers of the Bible unaware that insects have six legs? This statement would seem rather silly, but atheists actually make this claim. However, one of the verses clearly indicates that these "four-legged" insects have six legs: 'Yet these you may eat among all the winged insects [sherets] which walk on all fours: those which have above their feet jointed legs with which to jump on the earth. (Leviticus 11:21) The key part of the verse is the phrase "above their feet jointed legs." The Hebrew uses two different words to describe the "feet" (regel) and "legs" (kera). What the verse says is that these insects walk on four "feet" (their anterior four short legs), with an additional two "legs" that are used for jumping. Therefore, all six appendages are described. Snakes, donkeys can talk Critics of the Bible claim that it says that a snake came to Eve and had a conversation with her to tempt her to eat the forbidden fruit.34 However, the Bible describes that this "snake" was none other than Satan,35 who, being an angel, took on the form of an animal. As such, this event is clearly a description of a supernatural, rather than a naturalistic event. Another example is when a donkey talked to Balaam. However, the passage clearly states that it was God who caused the donkey to talk.36 This, likewise was a supernatural event.

In the story of Jacob, Laban, his father-in-law, cheated him out of his pledged wife. Jacob had offered to work for Laban seven years to be married to Rachel. However, on the wedding night, Laban switched daughters and gave him Leah. In the light of the next day, Jacob discovered the switch, but Laban would not offer Jacob Rachel as his wife unless he agreed to work another seven years for him. After the second seven years were completed, Jacob asked to be allowed to leave, but Laban did not want him to leave, since Jacob had greatly increased Laban's flocks and herds. Laban offered Jacob to take some of his animals, so Jacob chose the black, spotted, and striped ones for himself.37 Jacob separate the spotted and striped animals and kept them separated from Laban's flocks. Jacob believed that by putting striped rods in front of where the animals mated that more striped and spotted animals would be born.38 Atheists claim that the Bible says that doing this would actually produce more animals that have altered genetics. However, what they fail to mention is that the Bible clearly states in the verses following that the reason for the increase of striped and spotted animals is due to a miracle from God: "Then the angel of God said to me in the dream, 'Jacob,' and I said, 'Here I am.' "And he said, 'Lift up, now, your eyes and see that all the male goats which are mating are striped, speckled, and mottled; for I have seen all that Laban has been doing to you. 'I am the God of Bethel, where you anointed a pillar, where you made a vow to Me; now arise, leave this land, and return to the land of your birth.'" (Genesis 31:11 -13) God caused the animals to have altered genetics, although Jacob thought that it was due to his little trick of putting the striped rods in front of where the animals mated. As such, this is an example of a supernatural rather than a naturalistic event. Stephen contradicts Moses on the death of Terah
According to atheists: Acts 7:4--Stephen tells us that Abraham departed from Haran "after his father died." Had he studied the Book of Genesis (11:26,32; 12:4), he would have realized his error: Abraham departed from Haran at age 75, at a time when his father Terah was 145; since Terah lived for 205 years, he still had another 60 years of life remaining.

However, what does Genesis really say about Abraham and Terah? After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. (Genesis 11:26) Unless he had triplets, all three of these sons were not born when Terah was 70 years old. One cannot assume from the order in the text that this was the order in which the sons were born. The text tells us that Haran became the father of Lot, but died before Terah died.39 It is possible, maybe even likely that Haran was the oldest son, and was born when Terah was 70 years old. What you do notice is that the order of sons in Genesis 11:26 is given by order of importance, with Abram being first and Nahor second with Haran third.40 However, in discussing the sons, Haran is discussed first (Genesis 11:27-28),39 indicating that he was, most likely, the firstborn. Nahor and Abram could have been born after Haran, maybe even 60 years after Haran was born. This would solve any kind of contradiction. Did Jesse have seven or eight sons?
1 Chronicles says that David was the seventh son of Jesse, whereas 1 Samuel says that Jesse paraded the first seven of his sons in front of Samuel, with David still in the fields (making eight sons). It appears to be a direct contradiction - but is it? Here is the list from 1 Chronicles: and Jesse became the father of Eliab his first-born, then Abinadab the second, Shimea the third, (1 Chronicles 2:13)
Nethanel the fourth, Raddai the fifth, (1 Chronicles 2:14)
Ozem the sixth, David the seventh; (1 Chronicles 2:15)

Thus Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. But Samuel said to Jesse, "The LORD has not chosen these." (1 Samuel 16:10)
And the three older sons of Jesse had gone after Saul to the battle. And the names of his three sons who went to the battle were Eliab the first-born, and the second to him Abinadab, and the third Shammah. (1 Samuel 17:13) It seems that there is a discrepancy between 1 Chronicles and 1 Samuel. In 1 Chronicles, the third son is "Shimea," whereas in 1 Samuel it is "Shammah." These are different Hebrew words that have different origins, so they seem to represent two different sons. 1 Samuel gives only the first three sons of Jesse (Eliab, Abinadab, and Shammah). The 1 Chronicles account gives the 4th-6th sons, none of which appear anywhere else in scripture. So, if we add up all the names that we have, we end up with 8 sons. It seems that one of Jesse's sons (Shammah) shown to Samuel at Bethlehem might have died while young and without posterity. Thus, at one time David was the youngest of eight sons (at the time of 1 Samuel), and at another time he was the youngest of seven sons (after the death of Shammah). If we keep in mind that Hebrew genealogies often included only the names of those who have some significance for future generations, it makes sense that Shammah would have been left out of the later genealogy in 1 Chronicles. False Prophecy by Joshua?
There are a number of prophecies that remain unfulfilled. For example, God's promise to Abraham that his descendants would possess the land between the Euphrates and Nile Rivers has not yet occurred (Genesis 15:18-21). However, not every prophecy in the Bible has been fulfilled in the past. Revelation suggests that this Genesis prophecy (along with Joshua prophecy41) will not be fulfilled until the Millennial kingdom rule of Christ. Shortly before the Israelites entered Canaan, God instructed Israel, through Moses, concerning the conquering of these territories, as related in Deuteronomy 20:16-18: However, in the cities of the nations the LORD your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes. COMPLETELY DESTROY them the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites as the LORD your God has commanded you. Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods, and you will sin against the LORD your God. About Albert Pike
Albert Pike was born on December 29, 1809, in Boston, and was the oldest of six children born to Benjamin and Sarah Andrews Pike.  He studied at Harvard, and later served as a Brigadier-General in the Confederate Army (DEMOCRAT, PRO-SLAVERY).
After the Civil War, Pike was found guilty of treason and jailed, only to be pardoned by fellow Freemason President Andrew Johnson on April 22, 1866, who met with him the next day at the White House. On June 20, 1867, Scottish Rite officials conferred upon Johnson the 4th to 32nd Freemasonry degrees, and he later went to Boston to dedicate a Masonic Temple.
MASON-KKK CONNECTION?
Pike was said to be a genius, able to read and write in 16 different languages, although I cannot find a record anywhere of what those languages were.  In addition, he is widely accused of plagiarism, so take with a pinch of salt.   At various stages of his life we was a poet, philosopher, frontiersman, soldier, humanitarian and philanthropist.  A 33rd degree Mason, he was one of the founding fathers, and head of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, being the Grand Commander of North American Freemasonry from 1859 and retained that position until his death in 1891. In 1869, he was a top leader in the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan. Pike was said to be a Satanist, who indulged in the occult, and he apparently possessed a bracelet which he used to summon Lucifer, with whom he had constant communication. He was the Grand Master of a Luciferian group known as the Order of the Palladium (or Sovereign Council of Wisdom), which had been founded in Paris in 1737. Palladism had been brought to Greece from Egypt by Pythagoras in the fifth century, and it was this cult of Satan that was introduced to the inner circle of the Masonic lodges.
It was aligned with the Palladium of the Templars. In 1801, Issac Long, a Jew, brought a statue of Baphomet (Satan) to Charleston, South Carolina, where he helped to establish the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite. Long apparently chose Charleston because it was geographically located on the 33rd parallel of latitude (incidentally, so is Baghdad), and this council is considered to be the Mother Supreme Council of all Masonic Lodges of the World. Pike was Long's successor, and he changed the name of the Order to the New and Reformed Palladian Rite (or Reformed Palladium). The Order contained two degrees: Adelph (or Brother), (ADOLF HITLER?)
and
Companion of Ulysses (or Companion of Penelope). Pike's right-hand man was Phileas Walder, from Switzerland, who was a former Lutheran minister, a Masonic leader, occultist, and spiritualist. Pike also worked closely with Giusseppe Mazzini of Italy (1805-1872) who was a 33rd degree Mason, who became head of the Illuminati in 1834, and who founded the Mafia in 1860.

 Together with Mazzini, Lord Henry Palmerston of England (1784-1865, 33rd degree Mason), and Otto von Bismarck from Germany (1815-1898, 33rd degree Mason), Albert Pike intended to use the Palladian Rite to create a Satanic umbrella group that would tie all Masonic groups together. Albert Pike made his mark before the war in Arkansas (CLINTON TERRITORY, HMMM) as a lawyer and writer, but as a Confederate Brigadier General, he was, according to the Arkansas Democrat of July 31, 1978, a complete "WASH-OUT," not a hero. 
Yet, Gen. Albert Pike is the only Confederate general with a statue on federal property in Washington, DC.
He was honoured, not as a commander or even as a lawyer, but as Southern regional leader of the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
 The statue stands on a pedestal near the foot of Capitol Hill, between the Department of Labor building and the Municipal Building, between 3rd and 4th Streets, on D Street, NW.

During the 1992 presidential campaign, Lyndon H. LaRouche and his vice presidential running mate, the Reverend James Bevel, launched a mobilization to remove the statue of General Albert Pike from Washington, D.C.'s Judiciary Square.
On February 1, the campaign drew an angry attack from freemasonic leader C. Fred Kleinknecht, who attempted to defend both Pike and the Ku Klux Klan from LaRouche and Bevel's attack.  A speech given by LaRouche defending his actions can be found here (March 20, 1992).

Although the Order was founded to provide an opportunity for the free exchange of ideas, Weishaupt's background as a Jesuit seems to have influenced the actual character of the society, such that the express aim of this Order became to ABOLISH CHRISTIANITY, AND OVERTURN ALL CIVIL GOVERNMENT (USING COMMUNISM, TERRORISM, JIMMY CARTER'S BUDDIES TO DO IT). An Italian revolutionary leader, Giusseppe Mazzini (1805-1872), a 33rd degree Mason, was selected by the Illuminati to head their worldwide operations in 1834.  (Mazzini ALSO FOUNDED THE ITALIAN MAFIA  in 1860).  Because of Mazzini's revolutionary activities in Europe, the Bavarian government cracked down on the Illuminati and other secret societies for allegedly plotting a massive overthrow of Europe's monarchies.  As the secrets of the Illuminati were revealed, they were persecuted and eventually disbanded, only to re-establish themselves in the depths of other organizations, of which Freemasonry was one. During his leadership, Mazzini enticed Albert Pike into the (now formally disbanded, but still operating) Illuminati. Pike was fascinated by the idea of a one world government, and when asked by Mazzini, readily agreed to write a ritual tome that guided the transition from average high-ranking mason into a top-ranking Illuminati mason (33rd degree). Since Mazzini also wanted Pike to head the Illuminati's American chapter, he clearly felt Pike was worthy of such a task. Mazzini's intention was that once a mason had made his way up the Freemason ladder and proven himself worthy, the highest ranking members would offer membership to the secret 'society within a society'.

It is for this reason that most Freemasons vehemently deny the evil intentions of their fraternity.  Since the vast majority never reach the 30th degree, THEY WOULD NOT BE AWARE OF THE REAL PURPOSE BEHIND Masonry.  When instructing Pike how the tome should be developed, Mazzini wrote the following to Pike in a letter dated January 22, 1870.  Remember that Freemasonry wasn't started by Pike - rather it was infiltrated by the Illuminati who were looking for a respectable forum in which to hide their clandestine activities: "We must allow all the federations to continue just as they are, with their systems, their central authorities and their diverse modes of correspondence between high grades of the same rite, organized as they are at the present, but we must create a super rite, which will remain unknown, to which we will call those Masons of high degree whom we shall select. With regard to our brothers in Masonry, these men must be pledges to the strictest secrecy. Through this supreme rite, we will govern all Freemasonry which will become the one international center, the more powerful because its direction will be unknown." 1 In 1871, Pike published the 861 page Masonic handbook known as the Morals and Dogma of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. After Mazzini's death on March 11, 1872, Pike appointed Adriano Lemmi (1822-1896, 33rd degree Mason), a banker from Florence, Italy, to run their subversive activities in Europe. Lemmi was a supporter of patriot and revolutionary Giuseppe Garibaldi, and may have been active in the Luciferian Society founded by Pike.  Lemmi, in turn, was succeeded by Lenin and Trotsky, then by Stalin. The revolutionary activities of all these men were financed by British, French, German, and American international bankers; all of them dominated by the House of Rothschild. Between 1859 and 1871, Pike worked out a military blueprint for three world wars and various revolutions throughout the world which he considered would forward the conspiracy to its final stage in the 20th Century. In addition to the Supreme Council in Charleston, South Carolina, Pike established Supreme Councils in Rome, Italy (led by Mazzini); London, England (led by Palmerston); and Berlin, Germany (led by Bismarck). He set up 23 subordinate councils in strategic places throughout the world, including five Grand Central Directories in Washington, DC (North America), Montevideo (South America), Naples (Europe), Calcutta (Asia), and Mauritius (Africa), which were used to gather information. Skeptics claim that the Bible makes a number of errors in its description of the physical universe. Many of these issues are handled on another page. However, what most skeptics don't know is that the Bible, written mostly by a bunch of sheep herders, makes a number of scientific claims that are remarkably correct - even though many were not even confirmed to be correct until within the last 100 years. The Bible is often described as a book that includes many ideas that are scientifically inaccurate. The truth is that what many Christians (and non-Christians) have misinterpreted the Bible in such a way as to make it seem to be at odds with the reality of our world. For example, the Roman Catholic Church promoted geocentrism (the idea that the earth is the center of the universe) for many years. This concept is not found in the Bible, but stems from the idea that since humans are the center of God's attention, that the place where they live must be the center of God's universe. This is neither a logical nor biblical inference. In fact, the Bible states that the heavens "fix their rule over the earth,"1 demonstrating that the heavens control the earth and not the other way around. The early proponents (Nicholas Copernicus, Johannes Kepler, Galileo Galilei) of heliocentrism (the earth revolving around the Sun) were all Christians (see related page - People of Faith - Famous Scientists). In fact, Isaac Newton, in his famous scientific work, Principia, stated, "The most beautiful system of the sun, planets, and comets, could only proceed from the counsel and dominion on an intelligent and powerful Being." It was written to explain spiritual principles - the nature of mankind, the nature of God, and how people can have a personal relationship with God. However, when the Bible describes the physical world, it is accurate.
