I'll admit that I haven't lived here long (moved from the metroplex just over a year ago) but things have come a long way since I first hooked up my plasma two july's ago and found that there were NO HD broadcasts available without paying a cable/sat company for the usual pitiful lineup of Discovery HD, HDNet, etc.. Then slowly but surely things started looking up....first KTAB and then KTXS went digital (passing through primetime HD programming) and then late this past summer KRBC digital came online and couch potatos all across the Big Country rejoiced! That is unless you're a Cowboys fan...or really like 24....or got hooked on American Idol. The worst part is that we can't get an answer on how soon we can get those things in at the very least digital..and at best HD. The other stations were more forthcoming about info leading up to their digital signal and for the most part info given to the public turned out to be true. Can we say the same for explanations (or lack thereof) given for the station who broadcasts the shows I mentioned earlier? I've requested info in the past and either got no response or a vague answer that didn't answer anything....I even saw a reply that someone else got that was laughably bad and assumes that everyone asking about HD/digital doesn't understand how things work. If it's lack of money then I understand...this is the 164th market in the US after all but I don't understand losing even more market share by allowing people the opportunity to get hooked on shows from other networks simply because they look better. Yes, its true...myself and many others will watch something we wouldn't normally be interested in simply because it is in glorious HD. My question is...can the one remaing network in the area afford to remain the last analog only (and poor analog at that) broadcast? I invite anyone to reply if you agree, disagree or just want to flame me...etc. I'm a big boy :)

Returning the favor 'Comment' favor. Just waiting for any kind of response from KXVA. I am going to post the ONLY communication I ever received by email from FOX on my blog. Only got 3 and again they got me nowhere.

If you want to try to convince the FCC to give KXVA another channel number. I'm for that. You guys need to be a little less obvious that you work for the other TV stations. Several things in your blog make it obvious. SInce I used to work in TV. I can see it clearly. The public knows nothing about market numbers and that sort of thing. Also, there are not just 4 stations in the Market. I also watch Univision and the CW which are both owned by KTXS. And there is also MNTV. None of them are digital or HD

lol...I tried to avoid replying to my own blog but this is too good. I can't speak for everyone else here but I definitely don't work for any tv station...the 164th market is only good for paying your dues with a low paid internship (even low for Abilene) while you are trying to get on with one of the larger markets. I work for an investment firm and simply would like to use my expensive HDTV for what it was designed for.

JoeMama,

Maybe you can help me understand the difference between digital and HD. I would also like to buy an "expensive HDTV" but don't really understand what the salespeople are pushing at me. I've read that the FCC wants all channels to switch to HD broadcast, but there's concern that people with regular tv's would no longer get the signal. I've never been on the cutting edge of technology for this reason, but the way people talk about the difference in the picture, I'm curious. I just don't want to buy something that turns out to be another laser disc player. Any info you can provide that will help me from getting screwed by a salesperson and the stations would be greatly appreciated.

Midwestboy-
Digital is required for HD but it isn't the same thing. A good digital signal can improve picture quality on a digital set with an ATSC (digital/HD) tuner but HD is a high bandwidth signal that must be passed through from the provider. For example: a local network can be broadcast in digital but it is up to the local affiliate to flip the "switch" that turns on HD. Don't fall for the 1080p hype unless you plan to watch a lot of HD-DVD/Blu-ray movies because 1080p broadcasts are a loooooong way in the future. I would get a higher end 720p set instead of paying the same for a mid-range 1080p. Plasma is my technology of choice and is best for pure tv/movie watching. (no hooking up a pc etc..)

As far as being out of luck when analog goes silent in 09....don't worry about it if you have cable/sattelite. They will offer a solution to keep you as a customer. If you get over the air only (antenna) then you will need a set-top box with an ATSC tuner or a tv with one built in.

Thank you for your interest in our HD Broadcast status. Your question would best be addressed by our Engineering Department. There seems to be a broad range of questions concerning this topic, so I will encourage the Chief Engineer to respond directly on the blog site. I know the engineering department is unavailable through this week, as they are doing off-site preventative maintenance. Expect a response early next week. I hope this interactive platform can allow you a public forum to express your opinions and concerns. Please have further questions prepared as our Engineers will be able to address all such inquiries at this blog site. I believe this is the best course of action because all discuss will be public, preventing any perception of spin.
