Brett Favre has broken Dan Marino's record for most all-time TD passes and the debate goes on about who the greatest quarterback in NFL history really is.  Many people say Dan, many say Brett.  Well, here is my pick...here it comes...Joe Montana.  That's right, the very same Joe Montana who's 6-ft. nothing and weights a hundred and nothing and doesn't have any arm strength at all.  What he did have, though, was an overall mastery of how to manage a game.  He was consistently in control of his team and when you combine that with the talented core of skill players he had around him, it adds up to 3 Super Bowls.  Also, Montana would easily be my first choice as the QB I would want under center with 2 minutes left, no timeouts, and the game in the balance (sorry Mr. Elway).  Montana had such a presence about him and you knew you had a great chance of winning the game when you saw Montana in the huddle.
As you can tell, I judge the greatest by how they manage the game, how great they are under pressure, and how many championships they have won.  Favre has his one ring, but Marino's legacy will be forever remembered by the fact that he never won a championship.  Montana has 3 rings to his credit and is considered by many, myself included, as the best clutch quarterback in the history of the game.  Because you always had a chance to win with him in the huddle, I vote Joe Montana the greatest QB ever.
